Against that backdrop, Anthropic is reportedly preparing what could be the largest initial public offering in history. An analysis published by AInvest on September 19 described a potential $2 trillion valuation and a $100 billion raise as early as October, driven by revenue growth from $9 billion to $65 billion in a single year. The same analysis noted cumulative losses exceeding $40 billion and a heavy reliance on cloud providers for funding, customers, and compute. The new public benefit fund will hold equity in whatever entity ultimately lists, giving it a direct stake in the outcome of that offering.
What remains unclear is whether the 5% allocation comes from existing treasury shares or new issuance, how the fund's governance will be insulated from commercial influence, and whether the structure will satisfy regulators or simply add another layer of complexity to an already unprecedented capitalization. The fund's first disclosures will be the first test of whether the commitment translates into accountable public benefit or remains a symbolic gesture.
