FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has earmarked a series of player sales to accelerate in the final two weeks of the summer transfer window. The aim is to push total summer income beyond €100 million and fund three priority signings before the September 1 deadline.
The club has already generated roughly €70 million in direct revenue from departures this summer, according to reports cited by Sport. The centerpiece of the accelerated exit plan is Ferran Torres, whose move to Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed on Saturday for a guaranteed €50 million fee.
From an accounting perspective, the Torres deal is striking. Barcelona signed the forward from Manchester City in January 2022 for €55 million on a five-year contract. With four years of amortization already booked, only about €11 million remains on the balance sheet. Selling for €50 million fixed therefore yields an accounting profit of approximately €39 million.
The departure also removes a gross salary of roughly €10 million per season, cutting the squad cost by an estimated €21 million in a single stroke — a meaningful buffer for a club operating under La Liga's strict salary cap.
Barcelona avoided an additional €8 million payment to Manchester City that would have been triggered had Torres renewed his contract, which was due to expire in June 2027. The player had agreed personal terms with PSG on a five-year deal and traveled for a medical last week.
