Cypherpunk Technologies brought its mining operation online Monday, deploying roughly 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate across U.S. facilities. The launch comes through a $33 million equity transaction with Winklevoss Capital that funded the acquisition of latest-generation Z15 Pro miners, according to The Block.
The move marks a structural shift for the Nasdaq-listed company (CYPH), which until now has pursued a treasury-only strategy. Since rebranding from Leap Therapeutics in late 2025, Cypherpunk has accumulated 323,394.38 ZEC at an average purchase price of $341.83, representing approximately 1.92% of the circulating supply as of August 11. At current prices near $504, that stash is worth roughly $163 million — more than double the company's $74 million market capitalization.
Yet the treasury approach has produced volatile earnings. A $46 million unrealized gain on ZEC holdings drove a $39.4 million net profit in Q2 2026, reversing a $77.2 million loss in Q1 when Zcash fell from $508 to $240. For the first half of 2026, the company reported a $37.8 million net loss and warned it expects operating losses to continue "for the foreseeable future."
Mining revenue could dampen that volatility. By producing ZEC directly, Cypherpunk gains a stream tied to block rewards and transaction fees rather than pure price appreciation. The 4.2 GSol/s fleet represents roughly 18% of total network hashrate, making it the largest active Zcash mining operation in the United States.
