In response to the rising tide of insolvencies, support services are expanding across the region. FRP, a national insolvency practitioner, has opened a new office in Ipswich, citing growing demand for its services. The move suggests that corporate and personal insolvency work is becoming a more significant part of the local professional services landscape.

Citizens Advice East Suffolk has joined a campaign against illegal money lending, a practice that often preys on those already in financial difficulty. The presence of loan sharks in the area adds a layer of risk for vulnerable households, potentially trapping them in cycles of unmanageable debt.

On a national level, the Insolvency Service has completed a £900,000 technology upgrade backed by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) to speed up debt relief applications. The investment aims to improve the efficiency of the system, though it does not address the underlying economic pressures driving the surge in cases.

Innovation in debt advice is also gaining recognition. The Debt Free Advice partnership, led by Toynbee Hall, has won a national innovation award for improving the way debt advice is delivered. Such initiatives may help bridge gaps in support, but their reach and effectiveness in areas like Great Yarmouth remain to be seen.
