Mirae Asset Group is moving quickly to capitalize its newly acquired cryptocurrency exchange. Digital X, the operator of Korbit, approved a third-party allotment share sale worth about 50 billion won ($36.1 million) at a board meeting on August 12, according to a News1 report. The company will issue 10,078,614 new common shares at 4,961 won each, with Mirae Asset Consulting — already the 97.15% shareholder — set to acquire the entire tranche. Payment is due August 27.
The capital injection is the first large-scale recapitalization since Mirae Asset Consulting completed its purchase of Korbit in July. That deal, cleared by the Fair Trade Commission on July 9, gave the affiliate 97.15% ownership for roughly 141.4 billion won (about $91.5 million), making Mirae Asset the first South Korean financial group to control a domestic crypto exchange. Korbit's operating entity subsequently changed its corporate name to Digital X Co. on August 11, though the "Korbit" service brand remains in use for now.
Digital X said the proceeds will be used to improve its financial structure and secure emergency funding for management needs. The stated purpose aligns with founder Park Hyeon-joo's description of Digital X as the "most powerful engine" for the group's Mirae Asset 3.0 vision — an integrated investment ecosystem spanning real-world asset tokenization, security token offerings, stablecoins, and traditional financial assets.
