Morgan Stanley Investment Management has launched two exchange-traded products that aim to solve a persistent problem for crypto-curious investors: how to gain direct exposure to Ethereum and Solana while earning staking rewards, all within a standard brokerage account and at the lowest cost in the market.
The Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust (MSSE) and Morgan Stanley Solana Trust (MSOL) began trading on NYSE Arca on July 28, 2026, each carrying an expense ratio of 0.14%. That fee undercuts every major competitor, including Grayscale’s 0.15% mini Ether product, BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust at 0.25%, Bitwise’s Solana staking ETF at 0.20%, and Franklin Templeton’s Solana ETF at 0.19%.
The funds track CoinDesk benchmark rates — the CoinDesk Ether Benchmark 4PM NY Settlement Rate for MSSE and the CoinDesk Solana Benchmark 4PM NY Settlement Rate for MSOL — and hold the underlying tokens directly. Custody is handled by BNY and Coinbase Custody, while institutional staking provider Figment operates the validators and manages staking for both products.
Staking from Day One
What sets these products apart is the integration of staking from launch. MSSE generally intends to stake between 50% and 80% of its Ethereum holdings, while MSOL may stake up to 100% of its Solana holdings, though these proportions can change over time. Morgan Stanley expects approximately 95% of the staking rewards to pass through to shareholders, and the asset manager has stated it will not retain any portion of the rewards for itself.
