Japan’s SBI Holdings has acquired a majority stake in Singapore-based crypto exchange Coinhako, a move that deepens the financial group’s push into digital assets, stablecoins, and tokenized markets across Asia. The deal, completed after securing regulatory approval, pairs a licensed Singaporean platform with SBI’s growing web of blockchain partnerships, including recent tie-ups with Solana and Ondo Finance.
The acquisition was finalized on 16 July 2026, following clearance from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. SBI executed the transaction through its subsidiary SBI Ventures Asset Pte. Ltd., combining a capital injection with the purchase of shares from existing Coinhako holders. The exact size of the stake and financial terms were not disclosed, but the outcome gives SBI a controlling position in one of Singapore’s pioneering crypto exchanges.
Coinhako has operated in Singapore since 2014 and holds a license under the city-state’s Payment Services Act. By taking a majority stake, SBI gains direct operational control of a regulated on-ramp in a key Asian financial hub. The platform’s existing user base and local compliance infrastructure offer SBI a ready-made distribution channel for future digital asset products.
