Brazil's crypto market has undergone a structural shift. In the first half of 2026, Brazilians purchased $14.68 billion in digital assets through registered providers, a 135% jump from $6.24 billion a year earlier, according to central bank external-sector statistics. Stablecoins accounted for more than 90% of that demand, turning dollar-pegged tokens such as USDT and USDC into the backbone of the country's digital-asset economy.
The pace accelerated through the spring. June purchases hit $2.54 billion, up from $1.48 billion in June 2025. In May alone, stablecoin buying reached $2.632 billion, a 158% year-over-year increase. Central Bank statistics chief Fernando Rocha told Valor Econômico the figures point to a market consolidating past its initial phase.
Tax authority data confirms the dominance. Between August 2019 and December 2025, declared crypto operations totaled R$1.58 trillion, of which 71.7% were stablecoins. Their share of monthly declared volume peaked at 94.3% in July 2023 and has since stabilized between 76% and 80%. USDT alone commands roughly 88.7% of stablecoin volume, with USDC and BRZ making up most of the remainder. In 24-hour trading snapshots, USDT and USDC together represent 94.75% of Brazilian market volume, while Bitcoin sits at 2.2%.
