Apple briefly crossed the $5 trillion market-capitalisation threshold on 28 July 2026, becoming only the second publicly traded company in history to reach that milestone. The intraday move capped a session in which the iPhone maker reclaimed the title of the world’s most valuable listed company from Nvidia, as a sharp rotation out of semiconductor stocks reshuffled the top of the global equity league table.
Apple shares closed at a record $336.91, up roughly 1.17 percent on the day, after touching an intraday high of $339.57 that matched the stock’s 52-week peak. Nvidia, by contrast, fell 4.99 percent to $196.51, dragging its market value down to approximately $4.76 trillion. The divergence left Apple’s market capitalisation at about $4.95 trillion at the close, though several data sources confirmed the stock had briefly pierced the $5 trillion mark during the session.
The reversal was not a sudden breakout but the culmination of a trend that has been building for months. Apple shares have gained more than 22 percent in 2026 through the July close, while Nvidia’s stock has risen only about 4 percent over the same period. The gap narrowed steadily until Nvidia’s sharp single-day decline completed the handover.
