Samsung says eligible US Galaxy users will be able to send USDC abroad from the wallet already on their phones starting in the last week of October, across 82 million devices. The World Bank says sending $200 across a border still costs 6.36% on average, about $12.72, more than double the UN’s 3% target. Side by side, those two numbers look like a layup. Add a third, the World Bank’s 3.54% average for digital-only operators, and the picture gets harder to read.
That third figure covers the tier of providers that includes Wise and Remitly, and it is the price Samsung actually has to beat. It sets up a real fight over what last week’s announcement means. One camp says stablecoins never lacked cheap rails, only a front door, and Samsung has just opened one on 82 million phones. The other says the expensive part of a remittance was never the blockchain, so moving the middle leg onto Solana changes less than the headline implies. Both camps can produce data. They are answering different questions.
