Excerpts from the article

  • A lawsuit now challenges Truth Social's plan to sell early access to President Donald Trump's market-moving posts, turning a commercial data product…
  • The suit targets the Truth API subscription service, which Trump Media & Technology Group launched on August 1, 2026. The product gives paying…
  • Trump Media announced the service on July 16, describing it as the company's first product built for recurring revenue. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said…

The controversy arrives against a difficult financial backdrop. Trump Media reported a net loss of $238.1 million for the second quarter of 2026, compared with a loss of about $20 million a year earlier. Revenue was just $1.7 million, up 89% year over year. More than $190 million of the quarterly loss was tied to declines in digital assets, digital assets pledged, and equity securities. Operating expenses rose about 275% to more than $165 million.

McGurn has framed Truth API as part of a strategic pivot. After the earnings release, he said the company would largely abandon a yearlong expansion into online betting and crypto and refocus on its social media mission. He described the API as a product expected to become a meaningful and durable source of revenue.

The stock has responded to the narrative more than the numbers. DJT shares were trading around $9.78 on August 1, up roughly 48% from a June low near $7, with the climb accelerating around the Truth API announcement. Forbes estimated the rally added roughly $600 million to Trump's holdings since that June low.
