The operational structure splits duties between two entities under common ownership. Uphold HQ, Inc., a U.S. Money Services Business registered with FinCEN, handles the crypto-to-fiat conversion. Uphold Securities Inc., a registered broker-dealer and FINRA member, executes the stock and ETF trades. Users pay an exchange fee for the conversion, a cost that active traders will need to weigh against the convenience of staying in one app.
Extended Hours and the 24/5 Ambition
Uphold also said it expects to expand trading hours to 24 hours a day, five days a week, covering pre-market, after-hours, and overnight sessions. That schedule would bring equity trading closer to the always-on rhythm that crypto traders are accustomed to, and it arrives as traditional exchanges like the London Stock Exchange and Nasdaq pursue their own extended-hours initiatives.
The timing is not accidental. Binance launched U.S. equities trading on July 15, 2026, offering zero-commission trades and fractional shares starting at $5 across more than 7,000 stocks and ETFs. The competitive pressure on crypto-native platforms to become multi-asset hubs is intensifying, and the ability to trade outside standard market hours is becoming a table-stakes feature.
